72 Hour Survival Information
Why Prepare for 72 Hour Survival
Survival preparedness can seem like a very broad topic and virtually impossible to many people who are just beginning to get prepared for survival situations. One of the biggest questions you may have is how long do survival situations last? The answer to this is that there is no definite answer. Some say just prepare to survive on your own for a day and others will tell you anywhere from 1 to 20 years. So how much should you prepare?
For those of you who are just starting with survival preparedness, I recommend you get prepared for survival situations that can last for a minimum of three days (72 hours). Preparedness that lasts less than three days is not a reasonable level of survival preparedness. Three days should be sufficient time for people to realize you need help and should also give you enough time to be rescued in most cases.
Once you are prepared for 72 hours of survival you can have some peace of mind knowing you have accomplished an intermediate level of preparedness. The next step is to build up food storage and other survival projects to prepare you and your family for one year.
So how do you get prepared for a 72 hour survival situation? The easiest way to accomplish this is to simply buy some survival kits and then add survival supplies to make sure the survival kits will last you for three days. Most average-sized survival kits will have enough supplies to last for about 3 days.
Make sure each member of your family has their own survival kit. Do no rely on one survival kit to last multiple people for 72 hours. Food, water and warmth are your biggest priorities, as these can be the biggest enemies in a survival situation.
