Emergency Survival for a Family of Four

I have been getting a lot of questions about survival preparedness for a family of four. While this site specializes in short-term, immediate emergency survival, I will make some suggestions for families of four to help get you started.

You hear it over and over but the first and best thing to do is to buy survival kits. If you have small children then get two survival kits that are built for two people. Both parents can then carry the two survival kits for the children.

Once you have your survival kits, remember to customize each kit for your specific needs and the needs of your children. Most survival kits you buy online will come packed into survival backpacks and will have extra space inside for extra personal items.

The second step is to make an emergency survival plan. Start with a map of the house and all of the possible exits. Mark where you have survival equipment such as fire extinguishers and survival kits. Make sure everyone in the family understands their role in a survival situation. Post the emergency plan where it is easily seen and read.
