How to Make Fire
Survival in bad weather will always depend on keeping yourself warm. There are many different ways to build a fire in emergency situations. Knowing multiple ways to make fire will increase your odds of survival.

In this article, some methods of how to build a fire in survival situations will be reviewed. Note only the method for building fires, not the steps to each method are included here. Look over this list of fire-making ideas then research how to use each one of them.

1. Matches-An easy way of starting a fire. Make sure your matches are waterproof and you have plenty of them so you don’t run out.

2. Cigarette lighter-A cigarette lighter is a great fire starter that is easy and quick to use. Don’t let your lighter get wet. Lighters can be smashed if you keep them in your back pocket.

3. The wooden hand drill-While this method works, it uses a lot of calories and can be quite frustrating. We recommend using this method as a last resort.

4. Magnifying lense-Use a piece of glass, magnifying glass, mirror, bottle or even a piece of ice to reflect the sun’s light onto some tinder or paper. With time the tinder or paper will begin to smoke and catch fire.

5. Flint and steel-This method is easier if you have experience with it and you understand how to start fires using mere sparks. Flint and steel is good because it is fast and reusable.

6. Propane lighter-Very fast and easy way of making fire for emergencies. The downside here is that once the gas supply runs out, you have to use alternate ways of starting a fire.

7. Batteries and steel wool-Easy and fun. Mix tinder and steel wool together. Rub a 9- volt battery against the steel wool to get sparks and light the tinder.

8. Magnesium fire starting-Magnesium bricks are an easy and fast way to make fire as well. You make magnesium shavings from the brick using your knife or a rock. Then you use a striking surface to put a spark in the magnesium shavings. The shavings burst into flame when they get a spark.

Whatever fire-starting method you choose, make sure you prepare for emergencies with more than one. Include any necessary fire- building tools in your survival kit. Keep these survival fire tools dry and guarded as they are perhaps the most important bad weather survival tool you have.
