Storm survival preparedness is often overlooked by survival enthusiasts. Bad weather can come on suddenly, catching you off-guard and unprepared. I will share some tips for storm survival that may help you to prepare for the worst weather conditions.
Begin with identifying what types of storms you are most likely to see in your area and prepare for those first. Tornados, earthquakes, snow storms, hail storms, hurricanes, typhoons, sand storms and thunderstorms are all more likely to occur in certain geographical locations. You can find local weather statistics and history online for your area.
Once you have made a list of possible storms you may experience, make a list of storm survival supplies for each type of storm. No matter which storms are likely to occur in your area, make sure you at least get some quality survival kits. Survival kits are handy during a storm as you can grab them in a hurry and get to safety with your survival supplies.
The next step is to create an emergency survival plan so your entire family will know what to do in case of a storm survival situation. Make sure everyone in your household understands the storm survival plan. Review the plan often and make any updates or changes as necessary.
Storm Survival Tips
When you find yourself in a storm survival situation, avoid going outside as flying debris, ice, water, falling objects and other hazards are likely to be present. Stay away from windows and outside doorways since these areas tend to be dangerous during a bad storm. Make sure any heavy furniture is secured to the floor so that it does not tip over in case of an earthquake.
Your community probably has an emergengy survival response plan but this help may not be able to reach you immediately. Learn first aid and keep first aid supplies in your home so you can treat wounds until help arrives. Do not assume that help will reach you right away after the storm is over either. It may take a couple of days for help to find you in a storm survival situation.
Prepare for storm survival today. Do not procrastinate preparing for bad weather until it is too late. You will be glad you did.
