Survival preparedness is as simple or as complicated as you make it. There are always more steps you can take to increase your level of preparedness. Luckily the list of things to do to reach a reasonable level ofsurvival preparedness is pretty small.

First on the list is to have an emergency survival plan. In this plan you should include escape routes from your home and instructions on what to do in different types of home survival situations.

Post your emergency survival plan somewhere in your house where it will be readily visible to everyone. Make sure all family members are familiar with the plan.

Next, get survival kits for each member of your family. Go over the survival supplies that are contained in each survival kit and how to use them properly. Make sure everyone knows where the survival kits are stored.

With these two steps I have explained above, you can accomplish a reasonable level of survival preparedness and have peace of mind knowing you and your family are prepared for survival situations.

Survival Tips if Your Car Gets Stuck in Snow

This is a heavy winter with temperatures and lots and lots of snow. Road conditions are dangerous and the importance of survival preparedness is escalated.

So what can you do to become more prepared for a survival situation like getting your car stuck in the snow? First, I recommend that you always tell people where you are going and when you will be back during the winter. I know this is a pain but it will help people notice something is wrong and find you quickly if you need help. Always take a cell phone with you.

Second, stock up your car with the appropriate winter survival supplies. I'm not talking about just a basic survival kit. Pack extra socks, gloves, a spare change of clothes, hats, a coat, boots and a survival shovel. Keep extra body and hand warmers in the car as well.

Make sure your car survival kit has food and water. Keep snow chains for your tires in the car as well. Do not leave your car unless help is a reasonable distance away.

The main idea here is to prepare your car to act as a survival shelter. You don't know when or if you will need to use your car in this way, but you can know you will be prepared.

No matter who you or where you live, survival preparedness is a smart thing for you to work on. Some think because of their social status, money, possessions or skills that they do not need to be prepared for emergencies. This is simply not true.

Survival situations are not respectors of persons. They could occur anywhere at any time. Get prepared for these unpredictable survival scenarios by acquiring the right survival supplies and skills.

I can't stress this point enough. Get a survival kit. If you do not have a good survival kit you are not prepared. I don't care what your survival skills are or if you have enough survival supplies in your house to last for years. Get a survival kit.

You may not be able to stay at your house. Maybe you will have to leave quickly and only grab what you can carry. It is essential that you have a good survival kit packed into a survival backpack so you can grab it and go in a survival situation.

Once you have a good survival kit. Get a survival guidebook and add it to your survival bag.

Cold Weather Car Survival Kit

I am still getting questions about winter survival for the car. Here are some tips and what I would do if I were just getting started with winter survival preparedness for the car.

First, buy a good survival kit with extra space so you can add your own items. You will still need the same survival supplies in the winter as you would use during the summer. You are just going to add some winter survival gear to your summer survival kit.

Once you have purchased your survival kit, make it waterproof by enclosing all survival items in a plastic bag. Also, spray your survival backpack with a waterproofing solution to protect your bag and its contents.

Now you are ready to add some winter survival supplies. There are two things you will need to focus on-staying warm and staying dry. Pack extra gloves, hats, socks and other clothing so you can wear layers in cold weather or simply have a change of dry clothes to change into. Pack lots of body warmers.

I would recommend a simple plastic rain poncho. Wear the poncho over your other clothing when it is snowing to keep you dry and to provide a wind break.

What to Do In Case of A Survival Situation

Knowing what to do in survival situations can save your life. You don't have to be survival expert, just be prepared.

The first bit of advice I can give you is do not panic. When you panic you impair your judgment. This will cause you to waste valuable energy and time. Also making poor decisions in survival situations can be deadly. Breathe deeply and analyze the situation. Weigh all of your options and choose the one that seems the most logical to you.

Be creative. Often times a survival situation will catch you by surprise. You will need to be creative to keep yourself warm, find food and water, signal for help, etc. Look around you and gather all potential tools together. This will help you to assess the situation and your capabilities.

Get prepared today. Nothing will help you survive a disaster more than being prepared. Buy a survival kit and add your own personal items. Learn how to use your survival supplies properly. Keep a survival kit in your car as well as in the house. Make an emergency plan that you can rely on and refer to in a crisis.

Emergency survival is possible for anyone with some preparation and enginuity.
